In the Dominican Republic, they make Mojitos with Bitters in them. Has anyone EVER heard of putting Bitters in a Mojito? If you haven’t tried it, I DON’T recommend it. It tastes absolutely terrible. I was hoping to finally enjoy a good Mojito served in the region from which they originated. So much for that.

Actually, yes…some bartenders have been known to put bitters in a mojito. Some even put a drop of tabasco to spice up the drink. Mint leaves that are muddled can leave an almost sour aftertaste in a mojito, and the bitters sometimes disguises this taste. Usually this is a trick used by inexperineced bartenders who dont have the time to muddle the leaves long enough to kill that taste, so they add the bitters for that reason. IF you have an extra minute and muddle the leaves well enough the bitter flavor dissolves when you add the rest of the alchohol.
I have been a bartender FAR too long…UGHHHH! Thank God or Goddess, whichever you prefer that I am finally out of the resturant biz!
