A celebration of competition and human rights is being held in a country notorious for their violations of human rights, including the intellectual enslavement of the entire nation of Tibet. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture? It’s amazing what a thriving economy can buy you.

I am very interested to see if China has been able to clean things up enough around all the Olympic venues to make the good impression they want. I read that they are shutting down factories and banning lots of vehicles from driving near Bejing to try to get the air clean enough that all the athletes aren’t collapsing from the pollution.
